Exercise Ball / Fit Ball

Exercise Ball / Fit Ball

This exercise strengthens the upper body and enhance the technique for a temps de poisson. The focus is on achieving a controlled suspension at the apex of the movement.

Preparation:

Have students start behind the fit ball, ensuring ample space for movement.

Steps:

1. Guide students to demi plié and roll onto the ball, positioning their hip bones halfway between the ball's centre and outer edge.

2. Hands should be under the shoulders, elbows slightly bent. Legs are crossed in 5th position, left leg behind.

3. Instruct students to move forward, elbows wide, lifting legs into temps de poisson, turning the head to the left. Emphasise the downward pull and openness of the upper thoracic spine for correct alignment.

4. Lower legs and return to the start position, repeating the temps de poisson and lower the legs.

5. The 3rd lift of the legs into the temps de poisson introduce a penchée variation, cueing supporting leg rotation and ball movement, ensuring that the student's arms stretch forward without locking elbows.

6. The legs join at hip height as the ball adjusts. Move the legs wide and change the legs as they settle into the original position to repeat on the alternate side.

Focus:

Monitor alignment, especially the upper thoracic region, as well as adductor muscle engagement. Ensure legs remain together in temps de poisson for proper form.
