Exercise Ball / Fit Ball

Exercise Ball / Fit Ball

This exercise is designed to improve students' understanding and execution of développé devant. The primary focus is on maintaining proper pelvis alignment. It gradually takes your students from a basic alignment exercise in a bridge position with crossed legs and moving to petit développé devant, and ultimately to full développé devant. Remind students to focus on maintaining control, alignment and fluidity throughout the movement.

Preparation: Instruct students to lie on a mat with their legs crossed at the calf muscles on the centre of a fit ball, positioned close to their bodies. Knees should be bent and rotated out, with their arms resting by their side, palms facing upwards.

Steps:

1. Encourage students to exhale as they rise to a bridge position. Then, return to the starting position.

2. If they need some extra support, they can place their hands under their sacrum.

3. In the petit développé devant, while bridging, students should extend one leg forward and upward, then return to the 5th position

4. Instruct the students to bridge once again and move into a full développé devant.

5. They slowly un-bridge, change legs and repeat on the alternate side.

Focus: Emphasise the importance of maintaining proper pelvis alignment throughout.
