This exercise is designed to enhance proprioception to help them maintain their turnout during allegro jumps. It also focuses on core strength and posture, which are integral for ballet technique.
Preparation: Have students lie on a mat with a fusion ball placed between their calf muscles. Adjust the ball's position to lower in the calf muscles for students with leg hyperextension.
Steps:
1. Instruct students to position their legs in demi plié with the best personal turnout, heels towards the ceiling at 90 degrees.
2. Guide them to extend their legs towards the ceiling with fully stretched feet and long toes, then return to demi plié. Repeat this three times.
3. Encourage them to sit up using deep abdominal muscles, with an elongated spine and legs bending in devant, alternating the top leg on each repetition.
4. Instruct them to roll back down to the frog position and repeat the entire set.
Focus: Emphasise the importance of maintaining turnout throughout the exercise and encourage a controlled and fluid movement.
