This exercise is an established method for strengthening the intrinsic muscles of the foot. It's particularly beneficial in preventing excessive tension in the back of the ankle, a common issue among dancers. It also helps students activate and strengthen the transverse arch while simultaneously lengthening the toes, which are crucial aspects of ballet technique.

Preparation: Instruct students to sit or stand in a comfortable position where they can easily reach their feet.

Steps:

1. Guide students to 'dome' their feet. This involves drawing the foot with the toes long, creating a dome shape with the foot.

2. Ensure they focus on lifting the arch of the foot while keeping the ball and heel grounded.

3. Encourage gentle, controlled movements to avoid cramping.

4. Repeat the doming action several times, maintaining a focus on the transverse arch.

Focus: Stress the importance of keeping the heel and ball of the foot in contact with the ground, ensuring alignment and preventing unnecessary strain.
