Ballet Barre

Ballet Barre

This exercise is designed to improve students' alignment and knee joint flexibility. It will help prepare them to execute more precise frappés and petit battements.

Preparation: Have students sit and wrap the resistance band (3m/10ft, medium/strong) twice en dehors around their thighs. Ensure they overlap the band slightly for stability.

Steps:

1. Students should face the ballet barre in 5th position, with bands under their hands on either side of their body.

2. Instruct them to maintain an elongated spine and proper foot placement to avoid pronation.

3. Begin with a dégagé to 2nd position with the right foot to prepare for battement frappé.

4. Execute 4 battement frappés en croix, followed by double battement frappés en croix.

5. Then, perform 4 slow petit battements, followed by 6 quick petit battements.

6. Rise coupé, dégagé to 2nd with the left foot, and repeat on the alternate side.

Focus: Ensure students keep their thighs aligned throughout the exercise and pay close attention to their knee joint flexibility.
