Exercise Ball / Fit Ball

Exercise Ball / Fit Ball

This exercise helps refine students' balance and control. It's integral to developing an understanding of how to maintain correct pelvic and hip alignment while shifting weight. As students glide side to side on the fit ball, they'll gain an increased awareness of their body's movement and stability.

Preparation: Instruct students to sit towards the front of the fit ball, ensuring their body lifts away without tucking or tilting the pelvis. They can lightly touch the fit ball with their fingers to keep it steady.

Steps:

1. Guide the students through the weight transfer from side to side, checking that hips remain square to the front.

2. Once they demonstrate control over their pelvic stability and alignment, introduce the port de bras.

3. When they are stable in the sideways transfer, increase the movement into a pivot (promenade) derrière, using small heel movements similar to a standing promenade. Remind them to keep their knees positioned over their toes the whole time. The port de bras will adjust accordingly.

Focus: Emphasise the importance of maintaining hip alignment and stability throughout the exercise. Ensure that the knees are correctly positioned over the toes during the derrière transfer.
