This exercise focuses on refining the technique of pas de bourée piqué, transitioning students from barre work to center practice. This exercise emphasises the importance of correct weight placement, ensuring students understand how to distribute their body weight properly for optimal balance and grace in their movements. It is essential for developing the precision and fluidity required for advanced ballet performances.

Preparation: Have students begin in 5th position en croix, ensuring they are grounded and ready for the transition into movement.

Steps:

1. Instruct students to fondu (plié) onto the right foot while lifting the left foot into coupé position, focusing on stability and control.

2. Guide students through 4 pas de bourée piqué at full height, with port de bras transitioning from 3rd to 3rd position, emphasising the elegance and fluidity of the arm movements in coordination with the legs.

3. Lead students into 7 petit pas de bourée piqué, maintaining bras bas with épaulement to enhance the expressiveness and artistry of the sequence.

4. Have students conclude the sequence by returning to 5th position, ensuring a clean and controlled finish.

Focus: Emphasise the importance of maintaining correct alignment throughout the exercise, particularly focusing on the stability of the supporting leg and the precision of the footwork.
