This exercise is structured to lay the groundwork for executing a pirouette en dehors en pointe, focusing on slow development, emphasising the foundational training necessary for students to achieve balance, control, and the proper technique required for successful pirouettes on pointe. It is designed to build confidence and precision in students, enhancing their understanding and execution of complex ballet movements.

Preparation: Start students en face in 5th position with the right foot devant, ensuring they are correctly aligned and ready for pointe work.

Steps:

1. Have students begin with a relevé in 5th, incorporating port de bras in 3rd opposition, focusing on stability and the smooth transition of the arms.

2. Instruct the students to progress raising the right foot into the pirouette position, transitioning port de bras to 1st position, emphasising the importance of maintaining balance and control.

3. Guide students to join the feet back in 5th position, maintaining port de bras in 1st position, reinforcing the precision of foot placement.

4. Cue students to execute a demi-plié with port de bras in 3rd opposition, focusing on the fluidity of the movement and preparing for the repetition of the sequence.

5. Introduce 4 relevé devant en tournant, the first 2 with the eyeline focused to the left and the next 2 with the eyeline to the right, having students maintain port de bras in 1st position, to enhance coordination and focus.

6. Instruct students to conclude with relevé passé derrière and port de bras in 5th position, focusing on the culmination of movements leading to a polished finish.

7. Cue students to repeat the entire sequence on the alternate side for balanced development.

Focus: Emphasise correct alignment and the engagement of core muscles throughout the exercise to support the execution of each movement with precision.
