Equipment Used

Resistance Band (medium strength)

Resistance Band (medium strength)

This exercise is designed to train dancers for the increased demands of elevation and speed as they progress in their ballet technique. These movements Incorporate dynamic stretching to enhance the dancer's range of motion and power in movements like high kicks and jumps. It is crucial to integrate this type of stretching towards the end of class, ensuring dancers are adequately prepared and warmed up.

Preparation: Wrap the resistance band around the student's foot, securing it below the knee. This setup aids in controlling movement and providing resistance.

Steps:

1. Have students lie on their back in 5th position, legs externally rotated.

2. Instruct students to perform a quick développé grand battement with a sharp accent, then lower the leg with control. Ensure the hip stays aligned and the movement stays within the dancer's range. The arms move overhead in sync with each battement.

3.Repeat

4. Shift both bands to the hand opposite the working leg. Repeat the développé grand battement accents to the side (à la seconde), focusing on hip alignment.

5. Repeat and ensure students perform the exercise on both legs for balanced training.

Focus: Emphasise maintaining a controlling the range of motion without overextending.
