Fusion Ball

Fusion Ball

This exercise is designed to help dancers the classical technique of the port de bras. The exercise focuses on rotations of the arms in opposite directions emphasising the inward and outward rotation without disrupting the shoulder area. Mastering this skill is essential in ballet but requires patience and practice.

Preparation: Ask students to sit in the centre of an exercise ball with their feet on the floor parallel to each other. Place a fusion ball between their knees to help maintain alignment.

Steps:

1. Encourage students to lengthen their pelvis and spine while keeping their shoulders relaxed.

2. The arms are positioned in a demi 2nd position.

3. Guide students to rotate their right arm three times, finishing in second position.

4. They extend their arm gracefully with expressive fingers before lowering the right arm.

5. Repeat the sequence with the left arm and then with both arms.

Focus: Ensure students upper arm is rotated inwards, with a lifted elbow and that the lower arm aligns with an outward rotation, completing the curve.
