Ballet Barre

This exercise aims to address common issues with hip alignment during a Rond de jambe à terre. It involves using a resistance band to provide tactile feedback, which helps students ensure their hips stay even and their legs stay engaged throughout the exercise.

Preparation: Start by having the students sit down and wrap a 3 meter (10 ft) long resistance band around the top of each thigh, securing it in place by wrapping it twice en dehors.

Steps:

1. Have students face the ballet barre while in 1st position, with their hands resting on the barre over the band.

2. Instruct them to move their right foot forward (devant), perform a demi rond de jambe à terre and then close their feet while adjusting weight laterally.

3. Repeat the same sequence with the left leg.

4. Now, perform the reverse movement starting with the right leg (derrière), followed by the left leg.

5. Finally, complete one more set of movements starting from step one.

Focus: Remember to emphasise maintaining equal hip alignment and keeping both legs actively engaged throughout.
