Exercise Ball / Fit Ball

This exercise is all about activating the adductor muscles and shifting the weight while using the exercise ball. It's a fun way for young students to develop a better sense of how their adductor muscles work, which is crucial for controlled movements in ballet. Additionally, this exercise helps them focus on maintaining the correct arm positions during port de bras.

Preparation: Have the students with natural turnout sit in a wide 2nd position at the front of their ball, supporting their own weight. For those with less turnout, position them so that their feet face forward and their body is more centred on top of the ball.

Steps:

1. Guide the students through port de bras by moving their arms from 1st to 2nd position.

2. Instruct them to shift their weight to the right side while keeping their hips and shoulders aligned. The port de bras movement transitions to 4th position.

3. Return back to centre and transition the port de bras back to 2nd position.

4. Repeat this sequence towards the left side, then perform another set starting from the beginning.

Focus: Emphasise the importance of maintaining stable hips and shoulders during weight transfers.
