Fusion Ball

This exercise is to help young dancers understand the fundamental aspects of alignment during a demi plié with special attention given to the posture and the rotation of the legs. Its purpose is to help students become more aware of how their bodies move in class and foster correct posture and alignment from an early stage.

Starting Position: Instruct the students to lie flat on their back, placing their heels on the fusion ball. Their legs should be straight and turned out and their upper back should be pressed against the mat. Their arms should rest on each side of the body with palms facing upward.

Key Points:

1. Guide the students through each demi plié emphasising that they should fully extend their legs between each plié.

2. Encourage them to maintain their natural leg rotation without forcing beyond their personal range, focusing on keeping their movements smooth and aligned.

3. Throughout the exercise stress the importance of pressing the up against the mat with the abdominal muscles active and maintaining their eyes up towards the ceiling.

4. Pay attention to the positioning of the students' heels and the subtle movements of their toes to stretch long without curling.
