This exercise is designed to help students improve their awareness of body alignment and weight placement in à la seconde and derrière positions. It aims to enhance balance, weight distribution and natural rotation without forcefully the turnout beyond the natural range.
Preparation: The exercise starts at the barre, remind students not to grip it tightly.
Tips:
1. The foot is placed on the fusion ball in à la seconde position. Pay attention to their natural turnout, ensuring a full stretch of the ankle and elongated toes.
2. Begin with ports de bras while making sure that the hips stay square towards the front.
3. Instruct the student to perform three fondu (plié) movements with knees aligned over toes, coordinating with the rhythm of the music.
4. They pivot (promenade) into an arabesque position towards the barre, maintaining square hips and placing proper weight over toes.
5. Repeat the three fondus in derrière position, then pivot back into à la seconde.
6. Make sure both sides are practiced equally.
Focus: Emphasise maintaining square hips, proper weight distribution and correct alignment of legs.
