Ballet Barre

Ballet Barre

This exercise is designed to help students improve their balance and stability by focusing on their centre of gravity. It emphasises the importance of engaging the abdominal and back muscles to stabilise the pelvis and allow for more freedom of movement in the legs.

Preparation: Students start at the ballet barre with their right foot on a fusion ball, positioned in demi pointe with an attitude devant alignment.

Steps:

1. They begin by gracefully moving their arms from 1st to 2nd position while ensuring good posture and a centred sense of gravity.

2. Extending their working leg, stretching the foot to match the contour of the ball. Make sure the alignment is correct.

3. Returning to attitude devant, repeating to work on balance.

4. Students elevé (rise), lowering the heel while extending the working leg.

5. Promenade (pivot) towards the barre, maintaining proper alignment and weight distribution, then the leg returns an attitude à la seconde.

6. Complete the sequence à la seconde, finishing with a balanced pose and arms in 1st position.

7. Repeat all these steps on the opposite side.

Focus: Emphasise maintaining hip alignment throughout to avoid disrupting the centre of gravity.
