Focus Warm-up 5: Balance & Weight Placement – Advanced Level, led by Emily Seymour, helps dancers refine their postural control in standing positions. This warm-up is ideal for reinforcing strength in the supporting leg and training consistent weight placement through transitions. Breath is integrated through port de bras to support movement quality without compromising alignment.


Use this class to guide dancers toward a more responsive base of support. Emphasise the connection between pelvic stability and balance, especially when rising to relevé or holding extensions.


Tips:

Check that students are not gripping the toes in relevé—encourage soft contact through the metatarsals.

Remind dancers to lengthen through the lumbar spine and avoid locking the standing knee.

Encourage even pelvic alignment during transitions, especially in off-centre balances.
