Welcome to Focus Class 4 – Advanced Level, guided by Stephanie Petersen!
This full-body session is designed to help dancers refine their control and fluidity, two key qualities for expressive and safe movement—particularly in adagio and transition movements.
The focus of the class is on moving with precision through a full range of motion, allowing dancers to build strength and awareness in every phase of the movement. Having control throughout the full range of motion improves technique, but also plays a crucial role in injury prevention as it helps train the body to stabilise during sustained, slower phases.
In this session, dancers will also explore the artistic side of movement, working on coordination, breath, and musical phrasing to connect technical execution with personal expression.
Tips:
Emphasise the importance of torso and core strength, particularly during adagio and pas de deux work, in achieving fluid, sustained lines and controlled movements.
Encourage students to move with intention—not just executing steps, but actively communicating through their dancing.
Help dancers recognise the value of dynamic control—using energy, not tension, to guide transitions and phrasing.
