Welcome to Focus Class 3 – Advanced Level, guided by Stephanie Petersen!
This class is designed to build power and ‘ballon’, helping dancers develop the strength, coordination, and control needed to improve both petit allegro and grand allegro. While the focus is on jumps, dancers will complete a full class, starting with a warm-up and finishing with a cool down to promote safe and effective training.
Throughout the session, dancers will work on activating and strengthening key muscle groups—including the core, glutes, hamstrings, adductors, and deep rotators—which are essential not only for jumping but also for clean batterie work and, by extension, solid ballet technique.
Tips:
In Rotation Presses, encourage dancers to visualise how activating their deep turnout muscles will directly support their alignment and control when jumping.
Emphasise that strong glutes and hamstrings directly contribute to higher and more explosive jumps.
In batterie, remind students to cross their inner thighs as they move their legs sideways. Once the movement can be performed precisely, increase the speed..
Don’t forget to coach musicality and dynamic contrast—help dancers explore how timing, accents, and rhythm enhance the clarity and artistry of their jumps.
