Welcome to Focus Class 2 – Turnout & Alignment, guided by Jenna Roberts! Turnout is one of the most essential elements in dance, influencing balance, control, and overall technique. However, achieving and maintaining correct turnout requires more than just forcing the feet outward—it starts with proper pelvic alignment and the activation of the deep external rotator muscles.

This class takes a holistic approach, strengthening not only turnout but also the correct posture and stability needed to support it. Dancers will work on recognising the difference between engaging the deep rotators and overusing the glutes, ensuring safe and optimal technique.

By the end of the session, dancers will have a better understanding of how to refine and sustain their turnout without unnecessary tension or misalignment.

Tips:

Encourage students to focus on pelvic stability first—turnout should come from the hips, not the knees or feet.

Remind them that turnout is not just about flexibility, but also about strength and control.

Guide students to work within their natural range rather than forcing turnout as this can lead to injuries over time.
