Welcome to Advanced Band Class 2, guided by Melissa McCabe! This full-body band session builds systematically upon previous classes, targeting torso and upper-body strength, external rotation, and precise alignment. Although exercises differ from previous sessions, they reinforce foundational principles whilst progressively strengthening your knowledge and application of technical skills.


This session specifically emphasises the alignment and strengthening of the torso, external rotation, and glute activation—key components for stable turns, expressive adagios, and dynamic jumps. The class will enable and encourage dancers in improving their rib alignment, breathing, and overall posture.


Tips:

Highlight to your dancers the direct relationship between rib alignment and breath control, essential for expressive movement and stability.

Emphasise that glute strength is crucial for powerful jumps; encourage dancers to actively engage these muscles throughout the exercises.

Remind students of the importance of maintaining controlled alignment over large movements or repetitions—quality over quantity.
